This tiny boutique resort has now established itself as truly ‘green’, not only will you be surrounded by banana leaves and fruit trees but your electrical needs will also be powered by the sun. With the addition of 48 solar panels on the roofs of the villas, as well as the existing solar water heaters, Maca Bana is setting the pace for green tourism in Grenada. Maca’ is the Arawak word for tree and ‘bana’ means place of dwelling. 'Maca Bana' is lazy luxury and soulful relaxation.
Maca Bana is located in the southern part of Grenada’s quaint capital city parish, St. George’s, next to 1 mile long, white sand Magazine Beach, overlooking The Aquarium Restaurant. The villas have stunning views over the Caribbean Sea to St. George’s and the hills beyond. The Boutique Hotel is 2 minutes away from Point Salines Airport, 5 minutes from Grand Anse Beach and 15 minutes from St. George’s.
The two acres of hillside land on which Maca Bana sits comprises of 5 deluxe banas with a sleeping capacity of 1-4 persons (use of one or two bedrooms; 2 single storey villas, 3 two storey villas) and 2 one-bedroom banas with a sleeping capacity of 1-2 persons. All the villas are artistically decorated and all unique, with enchanting murals and hidden delights for the eye to slowly reveal. The fully landscaped tropical garden has an infinity-edge swimming pool overlooking the beach and a central rock waterfall feature with a terrapin pond. The cleverly oriented villas have sea views whilst enjoying lush gardens or are set cliff-side for total privacy. Each villa is named for its surrounding flora and themed accordingly within, Pineapple Villa, Avocado Villa and Pawpaw... literally pick your fruit right from the tree!
The guests are very welcome to enjoy their meals in The Aquarium Restaurant on the property, right on the beach. Most other restaurants are 5-15 minutes drive away. Maca Bana also offers the ‘PERSONAL CHEF SERVICE’, which means that guests can order a chef from the restaurant to come to their villa and prepare a delicious meal for them, which they can enjoy on their sundeck with nice ocean view. The guests can also have a private and very individual cookery lesson to learn how to make a local specialty such as Callaloo soup or blackened fish.
The breathtaking view from the infinity pool takes in the length of white-sand Aquarium beach with St. Georges and the verdant mountains beyond. The lovely Magazine Beach is just down the hill below the villas, about 3 minutes walk. Maca Bana offers more than sun and sand, right on the beach, kayaking and snorkelling are available. Other activities include private art and cookery lessons, in your villa catering and spa treatments.
Maca Bana is a private retreat, unique boutique hotel, fully ‘villa equipped’ luxury resort. You will be welcomed by the General Manager or Owner on arrival, cared for daily by the friendly house-keepers and given total privacy during your stay at this family run ‘home from home’. Private art lessons – 1 to 3 art lessons with resident fine artist Rebecca Thompson are also offered. There is wireless internet access throughout property for those who bring their own laptop, this means you could use the internet inside your villa, on its sun deck, by the pool or in the Aquarium Restaurant.
